This lecture is a prelude to the premiere play "LIMBO" by director Iljo Moščickis (September 4, 5). This is an event from the series "Lože Ether".How did the emergence of the director change the theater and how did the directing theater itself change? Did it survive, in the words of Karl Jaspers, its "axial time"? Why do some of the most famous plays of the past decades seem archaic to a modern, sophisticated viewer, while others do not? What does the category of "contemporary" generally mean in the context of theater? In the more than one hundred years since the emergence of the directing phenomenon, the theater has already undergone many evolutions, absorbed many new territories, but is it not now experiencing a crisis? Marina Davydova's lecture will not only talk about famous theater creators, from Tadeusz Kantor to Katie Mitchell, from Robert Wilson to Romeo Castelluccio, but also about how theater is changing in recent years. The lecture will be accompanied by video clips of masterpieces, which, in the opinion of the lecturer of the lecture, outlined the guidelines of the theater of the 21st century.Marina Davydova is a theater critic, director, playwright and producer. Wrote the monographs "The End of the Theater Epoch" (2005), "Kultūra NULIS" (2017), contributed to the preparation of the book "The History of European Theater from the Renaissance to the End of the 19th Century". She has won many awards for theater criticism. in 1998 she was one of the founders of the NET (New European Theatre) festival. Curated the Wiener Festwochen drama program (2016) and served as the Salzburg Festival Drama Director (2023-2024). Notable directing works: the play "Eternal Russia" (Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin, 2017), "Checkpoint Woodstock" (Thalia Theater in Hamburg, 2019).
