III INTERNATIONAL JOSEPH ACHRON MUSIC FESTIVAL Festival opening concert "Concerto in Do" in memoriam Anatolijus Šenderovs LITHUANIAN NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (artistic director and chief conductor Modestas Pitrėnas) Soloist: Gleb PYŠNIAK, cello Conductor ROBERTAS ŠERVENIKAS Concert leader: Julijus Grickevičius Program: Anatolijus Šenderovs "Concerto in C” for cello and symphony orchestra Robert SchumannSymphony no. 4 in D minor, Op. 120 III International Joseph Achron Festival returns with a special opening concert - the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, together with one of the most outstanding cellists of the Baltic States, Gleb Pyšniak, conducted by maestro Robert Šervenik, will perform a concerto for cello and orchestra by Anatolij Šenderov, a classic of contemporary Lithuanian music, "Concerto in Do", dedicated to the LNSO to fellow maestro David Gering. After the premiere of "Concerto in Do" at the Konzerthaus Berlin in 2002, the audience expressed their admiration by inviting the performers and composer to the stage six times. Music critic Susan Shineberg wrote in the art magazine "International Art Manager" that she hardly remembers a time when a non-professional audience greeted a work of contemporary music so enthusiastically. The second part of the concert will feature the great romanticist Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 4. The opus is full of romantic spirit, characterized by the innovativeness of those times and is considered one of R. Schumann's most mature works.
