In the performance "When the Bleeding Stops" Lovísa ósk Gunnarsdóttir speaks of the silence and taboo accompanying menopause in Western societies, as well as their own experience as a dancer. Five years ago, having suffered an injury, Lovísa was forced to re -evaluate her relationship with dance and body. This process opened the artist's eye on the silence of menopause and the lack of her own knowledge. She started looking for information and announced an open invitation to women who are experiencing menopause. Shortly after, many women from a variety of Icelandic groups were involved in the project.
The performance "When the Bleeding Stops" invites viewers to descend into the world of vulnerability, shame, empathy and humor. We are taken to the women's private home space, where the various layers of experiences associated with menopause are deepened, and are invited to laugh, convert and celebrate with these great women. The trauma suffered prompted her to seek a Master's degree in stage art practice at the University of Iceland, where she continued to develop her artistic activities and conduct research on aging, body knowledge, history and great taboo - menopause. From these studies and gunnarsdóttir artistic practice, a stage work "When the Bleedin Stops" was born.
