Capo & Slap exams the complex and paralyzing tension, which originated in Eastern Europe (especially between Lithuania and Belarus), after 2022. February 24th Russia's full invasion of Ukraine. This tension is explored through historical, political, geographical and social contexts, while using the personal experiences of Agniene Lisičkinaitė and Igor Shugaleevo.
Being politically engaged in 2020. In the events of the Belarusian Revolution, Igor was involved in protests in Belarus and Agniene in demonstrations at the Belarusian Embassy in Vilnius. Igor had to leave his homeland, and Agnietė decided not to work with Russian -speaking artists.
Today, when they meet on the same stage, these two artists try to establish a dialogue that seems impossible beyond art: dialogue between fear and action, between collective and personal responsibilities, between personal tragedy Naivian ambition to find solutions for political or military conflicts, the performance aims to encourage political and philosophical reflection on our own ability to distinguish between responsibility and guilt, nationalism and patriotism, self -defense and aggression to trust and try to protect. How can we maintain a balance between self -protection and risk to reflect the same aggression we are fighting with? Can we respect each other's differences, maintain personal views and protect personal freedoms, without being excited to the rights of others? These are the questions that Agniene and Igor ask themselves and their audiences.
Dance artists Agnietė Lisičkinaitė (Lithuania) and Igor Shugalev (Belarus) are internationally recognized for their politically engaged creative work Their creative practice is based on a physically exhausted body, symbolizing those that are oppressed by various systems.
