Liza Baliasnaja (Lietuva / Vokietija) – CHIAROSCURO

Dance performance Chiaoscuro is part of a continuous Lisa Baliasnaja artist study, which analyzes the influence of emotions as fear and nausea on political views of increasing society during polarization. The work of the work is a frightened body and its grotesque expression. By styling the somatic expression of fear, the performance is based on the typical emotional drama of Baroque painting. The title indicates the baroque technique of Chioaroscuro, which is characterized by strong contrast of light and dark.

When does the concern turn into violence, care for dominance, and the abusers as aggressors? Chioaroscuro interpreted typical images of populist discourse, embodying the social archetypes of the victim, the perpetrator of the perpetrator and the rescuer. The work deals with the dynamics of the power of these archetypes, their tact and their interdependence.

The fear is difficult to arrest. She travels quickly from one body through another, eventually covering the whole team. This does not require tangible threats. Fear ends us up from the present, allowing us to conquer fantasy. But can fear be confused with discomfort when encountering another? Chriaoscuro deepens the political significance of the presence in the intermediate state - between admission and separation, being scared and dangerous, acting and presence in action. In her works, she explores topics of power, identity, language and violence. Her latest works were presented at international festivals in Rada Nights, Bâtard, New Baltic Dance, Almost Summer / Feminist Futures, Tanz.Tausch and Contempo. She collaborated as a performer and advisor with artists as Eszter Salamon, Christine de Sandt, Lenio's neck, Mårten Spångberg, Ula Sickle, Lina Lapelytė and others. She graduated from P.A.R.T.S and has a bachelor's degree in philosophy at KU Leuven University.
