Carrie is a shy teenager who grew up with a strict religious mother and was ostracized by cruel peers because of her differences. After being humiliated on prom night, the girl increasingly masters her telekinesis abilities and succumbs to vengeful impulses under the influence of pain. This is Steven King's first published book, and his first story to be made into a film. Her financial success and nominations for two Oscars allowed future producers to believe that the writer's material could turn into profitable and high-quality films.
