After large business privatized the marina, a small fishing community on the Curonian Spit
takes shelter in warehouses that have not yet been demolished and ships moor here. The changes in Nida not only change the genius loci and form business-based connections between the residents, but together with the decreasing fish resources, also lead to the disappearance of the fishing community. Despite the worsening fishing conditions every year, two experienced fishermen persist in fishing. For them, it is not only the main source of livelihood, but also the only remaining passion of life. Over time, fishermen begin to realize that there is less and less time left for fishing and every moment spent at sea becomes extremely valuable to them. The jetty, settled as if by fishermen who had gone to reserve, is an obvious reminder of the impermanence of life for them.
Following the privatization of their jetty by a big corporation, the tiny fishing community of the
Curonian Spit seeks temporary shelter in the handful of remaining warehouses where they moor their
boats. The changes in Nida go beyond the shifting genius loci and the fostering of new social bonds
among its residents, driven by commercial interests. Alongside declining fish stocks, there is a gradual
fading of the town's once-thriving fishing community. Year after year, despite worsening conditions,
two veteran fishermen persevere with a trade that represents not only their main income, but also theirs
last remaining passion. In time, they come to accept their diminishing fishing prospects, and cherish
every moment spent at sea. The dock – now haunted by retired fishing folk – serves as a stark reminder
of life's impermanence.
