"Shine" returns to the "Pamatyk kine" repertoire in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai! Perhaps the most famous horror film of all time is based on Steven King's novel, which tells how struggling writer Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson) and his family agree to look after a hotel in the mountains for a few months. In the course of the plot, it becomes clear to the audience that Jack's son has a supernatural ability to communicate with the hotel chef's thoughts - a connection that the latter calls a glow. Characters who wield this "gift" are able to see mirages of the past or future. All this is interwoven with the ghosts in the corridors of the hotel, whose chilling effect on Jack is intensified when the hotel is surrounded by mountain snowfields. Interestingly, the adaptation of the book directed by Stanley Kubrick did not impress the author of the story, Steven King. Originally, the film did not enslave the critics, whose favor the film had to wait for several years. However, Kubrick's decisions proved to be timeless - his directorial skills to combine the horror in the hotel with the extremely sensitive topic of domestic violence gave the work an additional dimension. Now considered a classic of the horror genre, The Shining has become a part of popular culture, parodied countless times, and constantly evoked in various media.
