The Finnish town of Karkila is surrounded by breathtaking nature, but in the last few decades it has become increasingly empty. The metal industry here is alive. The most famous Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki together with his poet friend Mika Lätti decides to establish a cinema in an old foundry. It is called Kino Laika, in honor of Kaurismäki's two dogs, and the artists are assisted by the residents of Karkila, who fill the new cinema with the sounds of rock and roll and motorcycles and vintage Cadillacs. The film combines dry Finnish humor and Kaurismäki's own delicate drawing. Unexpectedly, Jim Jarmusch himself stumbles in here.
