The French Army officer, Colonel Daks, receives a team to carry out a meaningless and brutal military operation during World War I, which ends tragically. His attempt to defend three soldiers accused of cowardice becomes a dramatic fight against absurd and inhuman military bureaucracy. In the film, idealism and humanity face the cynical indifference of authority and blindness. However, the colonel remains faithful to his values, even if true and justice no longer have value. It is an insightful antimylitarian manifesto that reveals the brutality of the absurd war mechanisms.
