Temazcal is an ancient bath ritual practiced by the ancient Mayan, Aztec and Toltec civilizations. The term "Temazcal" comes from the Old Nahuatl language from the words "teme" (wash) and "calli" (house), and means "house of heat".
This ritual focuses on physical, spiritual and mental health. The purpose of the ritual is a therapeutic treatment that helps reduce stress, relieve pain, and can help treat skin and respiratory diseases. Temazcal is heated with stones heated in a fire, which are brought into the sauna with a structure resembling a turtle shell.
The duration of the sauna ceremony is 2.5 hours.
