The artists' relationship with their era is evident in Ansios Epner's film magazines and films about art - for example, in the short subway film about the famous Latvian painter Maija Tabakas. Particularly important to Epner was the film director and theorist Sergei Eisenstein, about whom Epner made two short documentaries. They explore the influence of Eisenstein's birthplace, the city of Riga, on the director's work and the author's path and its significance for the history of world cinema created outside of Hollywood. In the form of an essay, "I was born in Riga" merges Epner's biography, his approach to art and reflections on the era, while at the same time helping to better understand the director's personality and work.
