The artists' relationship with their era is evident in Ansios Epner's film magazines and films about art - for example, in the short subway film about the famous Latvian painter Maija Tabakas. Particularly important to Epner was the film director and theorist Sergei Eisenstein, about whom Epner made two short documentaries. Vilnius Documentary Film Festival, founded in 2004, is the oldest international documentary film festival in the Baltic States and so far the only festival In Lithuania, it is intended only for creative documentaries.
