Before World War II, there were about 600 synagogues in Lithuania, which have survived about 70 buildings in our cities and towns to this day, unfortunately Hebrew prayers and hymns are still raising in Vilnius and Kaunas. We invite you to get to know the prayer house of the once abundant Lithuanian Jewish community. You will find out why the synagogue can by no means be called the temple, what requirements are for the construction of synagogues and whether they have always been able to fulfill them, living far from the Holy Land. You will see what elements are necessary for the Jewish prayer house and hear why they are strictly prohibited by paintings, icons and sculptures depicting a person. We will learn about the main symbols of Judaism that adorn the interior of the prayer house.
