ZOLINES IN TRAKAI - author's weekend tour

On Friday, August 15, all of Lithuania celebrates the ancient holiday of Zholines - the day of the union of summer with autumn. On this occasion, I invite you to join my weekend tour of the city of Trakai.

Our goal is to see how the summer harvest festival of Žolines or, as the dzuks call it, Kopustin, is celebrated in this ancient Lithuanian city. We will walk all day in a fabulously beautiful place in Lithuania. It’s especially cool to feel the spirit of this ancient holiday here. We will spend our time in Trakai profitably by visiting its main attractions with the most important and interesting stories. The plan for the day is as follows:

We will visit one of the oldest churches of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lithuania. Here is the most important Lithuanian shrine - the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Troka. We will take part in the annual procession around the city with an orchestra in tribute to this ancient icon. We will walk along Karaite street, learn the history of the Karaites and their Trakai legends, and also have a snack at the national Karaite restaurant. We will take part in a kermoshus or craft fair on the Karaite island, where we can, if desired, learn how to make spoons and troughs, bake bread, weave wreaths. If desired, we can visit the magnificent Gothic island castle of Trakai to learn about the history of the most revered Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, the mystery of the disappearance of his royal crown and the story of his life. If possible, we will try the famous Trakai cabbage soup, prepared according to ancient recipes. At the end of the tour we will stop at the oldest alpaca farm in Lithuania (tickets 10 €, bowl with food 1.5 €).

Tour cost 40 Euro per person. This price includes all transportation costs, parking and professional guide services along the entire route. Additionally, you will have to pay for a ticket to the Trakai Castle Museum, a visit to the alpaca farm, and also for lunch at a Karaite restaurant.

The tour starts at 10:00 am in the parking lot at the entrance to the IKI store next to the Vilnius Central Bus Station. We will return back to Vilnius at approximately 17:00. I recommend booking tickets in advance, since the number of seats on the tour is limited from 4 to 8 people, priority when ordering tickets online
