We have great news!
The Gestalt Practice: Counseling and Psychotherapy bookGestalt psychotherapy is not a set of techniques or instruments. It is a way of life, a life-changing philosophy and practice. The main goal of this psychotherapy is to help a person discover contact with himself, another person and the world.
Brigita Kaleckaitė Gestalt psychotherapist, supervisor, founder of the Vilnius Gestalt Institute:
This book is a textbook of Gestalt therapy. It is one of the best written books on Gestalt therapy in the world, accessible to both the beginning student and the experienced practitioner. It can also be read by anyone who is interested in psychology and wants to expand their world view. It is also intended for representatives of other areas of psychotherapy who want to get acquainted with the Gestalt approach to personality. You won't believe it, I myself have read this book about thirty times in 10 years, and every time I discover something new! Gestalt psychotherapy is not a set of techniques or instruments. It is a way of life, a life-changing philosophy and practice. The main goal of this psychotherapy is to help a person find contact with himself, another person and the world. It helps to regain vitality, spontaneity and creativity, encourages a person to look at the world from a holistic perspective and better understand himself, to nurture an embodied and conscious being, to become the creator of his own life.
Finally, in Lithuania we have a book that everyone can read and understand what gestalt therapy is. This world-famous direction of psychotherapy was created in New York, United States of America, in 1951, when the book written by Fritz Perls, Paul Goodman and Ralph Hefferline about the theory and practice of Gestalt therapy, which is now called the "bible" by many specialists, was published. This book is not easy to read, it is dominated by complex sentences and ideas that are not understandable to everyone. If people interested in the principles of gestalt started their interest from this book, many would drop it before halfway through and never return to gestalt. The book is written for already experienced gestalt specialists.
Later, many works were published about this direction of psychotherapy. Most of the time, they were intended either for already experienced specialists, or they were personal reflections of some author, how he sees Gestalt therapy. One resource, a textbook, was missing, after reading which one could get a general picture of the direction of psychotherapy and learn. The book Gestalt Practice: Counseling and Psychotherapy by Phil Joyce and Charlotte Sills filled this gap. If you only have time for one reading about gestalt, of course, choose this one!
Thank you to the authors for agreeing to publish the book in Lithuania, translator Vita Daugėliene for her patience in translating gestalt terms, and "Vagai" for her warm and professional cooperation in publishing this book.
