There are places where history was made. There are places where the future is made. The nuclear power plant that has operated in Lithuania is one of the few where both meet.
We invite you to go on an atomic adventure - a full-day expedition around the Ignalina nuclear power plant.
The power plant once housed the most powerful nuclear reactors in the world, and today the most complex environmental protection megaproject in Lithuania is implemented here, which is carried out by "Altra".
This is a unique opportunity to see with your own eyes how safely the nuclear power plant is being dismantled and the nuclear legacy that has accumulated over several decades is being managed.
We invite you to get to know the Lithuanian megaproject up close - to see the progress, make sure that all work is carried out safely and responsibly, and get answers to all your questions. And the first job you will have to do is to change into real, snow-white workers' clothes!
The expedition will consist of two parts:
· We will visit the temporary storage of spent nuclear fuel. You will see impressive containers that store most of the nuclear fuel used in the Ignalina nuclear power plant. We will discuss in detail the entire path of nuclear fuel, from the uranium mine to the final storage site. We will clarify what works and processes have already been completed, and what is still waiting in the future.
· We will explore the controlled territory of the power plant. You will have the opportunity to see how the impressive spaces and mechanisms looked and worked. You will visit the exclusive places of the power plant that not everyone gets into - the turbine hall, the fuel storage pool, the reactor control panel and other unique spaces. We will discuss the peculiarities of reactor management, we will discuss the nuances of liquid radioactive waste management and much more - where the deactivated materials go and what awaits those parts of the power plant that will emit radiation for hundreds of years.
The expedition is not an ordinary tour - it is an exceptional introduction to the cycle of nuclear energy: from nuclear fuel extraction, power plant construction, electricity production and the particularly important stage currently taking place - nuclear management of the energy legacy.
