MARTYNAS LEVICKIS (accordion) Different - purer, deeper, more open - Martynas Levickis will perform in Troškūnai church in August. This time, an extremely rarely seen and heard accordionist in Lithuania will play alone, without any large orchestra or Mikroorkéstra, which he assembled himself, so this is a unique opportunity for listeners to experience his virtuosity and technique. The program includes music from Martyn's first solo album "Autograph", which brought him the instrumentalist of the year prize at the prestigious "Opus Klassik 2023" awards in Europe last year. Only one sounding piece – Impasse by the contemporary French accordionist and composer Frank Angeli – was originally written for the accordion. Others are arranged for this instrument. These are Philip Glass Etudes for piano, Lithuanian folk songs "Šiū namo", "Palinko liepa", "Rūta žalioj", "Beauštanti ausrelė" and several other pieces arranged by Martyn himself. "Several of these songs are connected to me by very personal and old stories from my childhood, when I was four or five," says Martynas, adding that his favorite is "Beauštanti Aušrelė". It was he who performed it a decade ago at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival for the current King Charles III of the United Kingdom and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla. The last year is the time of M. Levickis' flight to unprecedented heights, the result of his extraordinary talent and patient work. In the summer of 2023, he opened the famous Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern music festival in Germany as a resident. In the more than three-decade history of this music forum, Martynas is the first resident who plays the accordion. Last fall, he returned to his alma mater, London's Royal Academy of Music, as a visiting professor. Here he studied by himself, in 2016 he was ceremoniously announced as an associate member of this academy. Such a degree is awarded to former students who have successfully developed a career in the world of music and whose professional contribution is extremely significant. "I won't hide it - teaching work attracts me and I hoped that I might get such an invitation someday. It was unexpected that it happened now," recalls the call inviting the 33-year-old to become a teacher at the famous academy. Thanks to Martynas, who plays in the most famous halls abroad, the name of Lithuania and Lithuanian music is getting more and more widespread, because concerts, and especially - solo recitals in his homeland are becoming more and more rare.
