in 2024 July 31 (Wednesday) 7 p.m. Birštonas Kurhaus (B. Sruogos St. 2) RESONATING HORIZONS: Nature and Humanity
Viktor Orestas Vagusevičius (piano) In the program Tristan Murail, Ludwig van Beethoven, John Cage, Robert Schumann Pianist Viktor Orest VAGUSEVIČIUS, who stands out for his diversity and creative courage in today's musical life, presents a unique program "Resonating Horizons: Nature and Man", which aims to present and explore the connections between nature, human emotions and musical expression through carefully selected classical and contemporary piano pieces. The program is divided into two parts: an embrace of the natural world and an exploration of inner landscapes, each of which consists of two contrasting works. The concert will begin with an immersive and otherworldly experience with Tristan Murail's mesmerizing composition La Mandragore (1993). The pioneer of the Spectralist movement, T. Murailas seamlessly interweaves the elements of nature and sound in the piece, inviting listeners to go on a sound expedition through heavenly soundscapes and organic harmonies. La Mandragore's sonic explorations will be like a doorway to the wonders of the natural world and will become the main theme of the concert. Although the composition was created listening to the world of nature and space, there is no shortage of imitations of the world close to man - birds, animals, forest sounds. After the enchanting piece by T. Murail, one of Ludwig van Beethoven's late masterpieces - Sonata no. 31, Op. 110. L. van Beethoven's music has always been a gateway to the human soul, and this sonata is no exception. It deals directly with the depths of human feeling, contrasting the cosmic realm explored in La Mandragore with the complex inner self. By juxtaposing T. Murail and L. van Beethoven, the audience will witness the interaction of the external and internal worlds, encouraging them to think about the relationship between man and the natural universe. The second part of the concert will begin with John Cage's cult composition "In a Landscape" (1948). The minimalist work of J. Cage, the pioneer of experimental music, will become a bridge connecting the contemplative nature of T. Murail's work with the emotional depth of L. van Beethoven's sonata. "In a Landscape" embraces simplicity and stillness, inviting listeners to reflect on their inner selves and the meaning of silence in a world of sound. This peace will be like an invisible bridge or an island of concentration before the last piece of the concert. The concert will be crowned by Robert Schumann's powerful and emotionally tense Symphonic Etudes, Op. 13. R. Schumann's composition, which testifies to the resilience of the human spirit, captures the essence of human self-expression, illustrating the complex tapestry of emotions experienced in our inner world. Listening to this piece, following Cage's contemplative work, listeners will embark on an emotional journey celebrating the complexity of the human experience and the power of music to convey the deepest feelings.
