Laureate of national, government and other important prizes, versatile personality, composer, pedagogue, essayist and polemicist Giedrius Kuprevičius celebrates his 80th anniversary this year. On this occasion, concerts of his work are held in various halls of Lithuania, attracting great attention. "The composer has created one of the most popular musicals in Lithuania, Ugnies medziklė su varovais (1975), and the song "Kregždutės" from this musical is one of the most popular works in Lithuania. The composer also regularly writes music of traditional genres: operas, symphonies, chamber works, oratorios and vocal cycles. This music by Giedrias Kuprevičius is moderately modern, the dominance of improvisational beginnings and clear connections with literature or fine art can be observed in many works. The composer also composes music for drama performances and movies" (mic.lt). The reviewer Alina Ramanauskienė described G. Kuprevičius as a creator with a sense of humor, incredible wit, and sometimes irony, who emphasized what is perhaps most clearly encoded in the maestro's current music - these are "subtexts that allow us to say more and more accurately than directly speaking words". p>
Calls in 2018 written "Symphony without piano" as Sonata no. 2 for piano (1970), the orchestral version, and the highlight of the evening is G. Kuprevičius' new four-part concerto for violin and orchestra, "Keturi baron Munchausen sapnai", which has not yet been performed in Lithuania. About the idea of the piece, which was inspired by the composer's creative colleague violinist Boris Livschitz, the author says the following: "I thought it would be a dreamy Munchausen. After all, the form of dreams allows you to avoid literalism, and it helps the listeners, who all probably know Munchausen's stories by heart, to indulge in the fantasies of subconscious images, without me pointing the finger at the Baron's specific stories. The chosen dream times (morning, afternoon, nap, night) are also spaces of different states. After all, it is quite different to sink into dreams in the middle of a night's sleep and in the morning."
"Munchausen Dreams" with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra will be played by Javier Comesaña Barrera, a young violin virtuoso born in Seville, who for his achievements, he received a diploma from the hands of Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, as well as winning the 1st prize at the Jascha Heifetz competition in Vilnius and the "Prinz von Hessen-Preis" award from the Kronberg Academy.
The concert program will also include well-known fragments of Edvard Grieg's suite music drama "Peras Giuntas" and one of the most unique works of Finn Einojuhani Rautavaara - concerto for birds and orchestra "Cantus arcticus", in which he used recordings of Arctic birds made in the Lapland and Liminka bogs, electronically altering their songs to blend with the sounds of the orchestra, with the brass also imitating the birds.
