One ​​of the most prominent prestigious and representative collectives of Lithuania, the Kaunas State Choir is celebrating its 55th birthday!

Established in 1969. professor, winner of the National Culture and Art Prize Petr Bingelis, the choir has held more than 4,500 concerts during its 55 years of creative activity, and has accumulated a huge repertoire - from simple folk songs to complex vocal-instrumental opus. The number of pieces belonging to the treasury of world music classics alone reaches two hundred and seventy, while the repertoire of smaller pieces already exceeds 700. The choir pays special attention to the works of Lithuanian composers, performing several premieres of works every year. The discography of the collective boasts over 60 recordings of works by Lithuanian and foreign authors. Due to its exceptional sound quality and high craftsmanship, the choir soon gained international recognition: it performed in such famous halls as the Pleyel in Paris, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, St. Cecilia Academy; with more than 30 world-renowned symphony orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Royal Philharmonic, etc.

From 2021 On the occasion of his 55th birthday, the Kaunas State Choir, led by artistic director and chief conductor, professor, winner of the National Culture and Art Prize Robert Šerveniks, prepared an exceptional gift for his fans. Georg Friedrich Händel's solemn hymns will be accompanied at the concert by two outstanding works by Anton Bruckner. This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of this genius of Austrian romanticism. The "Te Deum" created by the mature composer became an extremely popular and frequently performed work during his lifetime. After one of the concerts, in which Gustav Mahler himself conducted the performers, he crossed out the reference written in the score to "choir, orchestra, organ and soloists" and hand-wrote "voices of angels seeking God, longing hearts and souls purified by fire". The composer himself called "Te Deum" "the pride of his life". Another piece by A. Bruckner - Psalm 112 - will be played in the concert program.
