A Norwegian cellist will appear this year at the traditional festive concert with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and its artistic director, violinist, conductor Sergej Krylov Sandra Lied Hague. She will perform Joseph Haydn's First Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in C Major, composed around 1765. to the cellist of Duke Esterházy's orchestra, J. Haydn's friend Joseph Franz Weigli. After 200 years, nothing was known about this work until 1961. a copy of his score was not found in the National Museum in Prague by the musicologist Oldřich Pulkert and in 1962 it was performed at the "Prague Spring" festival.
The cellist S. L. Haga made her debut with the symphony orchestra at the age of 10, and has won four international competitions . She appears at London's Wigmore Hall and Royal Albert Hall, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, Salzburg and Verbier Festivals; collaborating with musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Janine Jansen, Yo-Yo Ma and others. From 2023 S. L. Haga is the artistic director of the Kristiansand Chamber Music Festival.
In the second part of the concert, the orchestra and S. Krylov will perform the famous reworked by the British composer Max Richter Antonio Vivaldi's cycle "Seasons of the Year". in 2012 The release of M. Richter's album of recompositions "Vivaldi, Metėu laikai" caused a real confusion in the traditional world of interpretations of this baroque opus. It is a completely new, fresh and daring approach to perhaps one of the most popular works for the violin. We all know and carry the "seasons" within us," says M. Richter. The piece uses various modern principles of composition expressing reflections of past music. "I wrote down 25 percent of the notes from Vivaldi, but they all really have Vivaldi's DNA," the composer joked.
This concert will also feature Lithuanian music - Teisutis Makačinos in 1990. created the bright and elegant Sinfonia giocosa (Joyful Symphony) for piano and strings. Since the establishment of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the composer who has collaborated with it has written several impressive opus for the collective, and won the orchestra's prize for "Sinfonia giocosa".
