Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra "Camerata Solaris", 2024 after celebrating the 35th anniversary of its activities at the end of this year, it became the Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra and made its debut on the stage of the Kaunas Philharmonic. The ensemble, led by violin virtuoso Vilhelm Čepinskis, together with the famous cellist, leader of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Mindaugas Bačkumi, will give the audience an impressive concert, representing the orchestra's transformation and confident step forward.
In the evening will begin with the 4-part suite for cello and orchestra "Infinitum" composed by V. Čepinski himself, dedicated to the concert soloist M. Bačkus. The title of the suite, translated from Latin, means infinity. "Everything that's scary keeps getting farther and farther away, you keep getting up and up. You finally arrive at the point when it's time for an oath and reconciliation..." – violinist and conductor V. Čepinskis says about his piece played at the concert.
In the second part of the concert, the orchestra will perform the Fifth Symphony of the German musical genius L. van Beethoven - one of the most famous classical works in the world. "This is how fate knocks at the door", L. van Beethoven wrote about the recurring motif in the symphony, which critics also call "the most famous four notes in the history of Western music". Because of these words of the composer, after his death, the work received the name "Symphony of Destiny". L. van Beethoven's contemporary Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann wrote: "This wonderful composition keeps climbing and climbing to the peak, leading the listener to the spiritual world of Infinity. The soul of every listener is touched by the spiritual reality created by this music, where grief and joy take the form of music."
The Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1989. On the initiative of Jonas Lamauskas, the director of the Šiauliai Conservatory (currently Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Gymnasium of Arts), an honorary citizen of the city of Šiauliai. Chronologically, it is the third to appear in Lithuania - after the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (1960) and the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra (1970). The repertoire of the orchestra is dominated by works from the Baroque, Classicism and Romantic eras. The music of recent times is also not avoided: from A. Piazzolla to A. Pärt. The orchestra was the first to perform works by A. Bruža and J. Keblik from Šiauliai. He often appears together with the Šiauliai Big Band and forms the only symphony jazz orchestra in Lithuania. The most famous Lithuanian conductors have stood at the orchestra conductor's desk: J. Domarkas, S. Sondeckis, R. Šerveniks, M. Pitrėnas, V. Viržonis, Latvian J. Resnis, German G. Maisas. The orchestra cooperates with Lithuanian choirs, prominent Lithuanian and foreign soloists: vocalists - G. Skėryte, A. Krikščiūnaite, E. Kaniava, A. Janutu, L. Gubaidulina, R. Vaicekauskaite, V. Miškūnaite, percussionist P. Giunteri, harpist J. Daunyte and others. The orchestra also has close ties with German artists: world-class cellist D. Gering, pianist I. Gabbe, pianist and conductor L. Dorfman. The collective performs in Šiauliai and other Lithuanian cities, has toured in Germany, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, and is invited to perform at Lithuanian festivals. From 2019 and until now the artistic director and conductor of the Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra is the famous violinist V. Čepinskis. in 2021 The Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra changed its name to "Camerata Solaris" on his initiative, and from 2025, with new members, it becomes the Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra.
