Thanks to the cooperation between Pažaislis Music Festival and Kaunas Dance Theater Aura, the dance performance "Sea" will be revived to commemorate the year of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.
The works of M. K. Čiurlionis depict the motives of nature convey the subjective relationship of the artist to the surrounding world, comparing man and nature. The compositional whole of the Symphony "Sea" (1903-1906) is characterized by philosophical subtext, vivid images of nature and psychological content. "The painting of the sea, long -tempted by composers, emerged as a symbol of life -cleaned and exalted life; active force, tragically broke and solemnly resurrected, appealed to the contemptible human value, inviting age and oppression" (Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis).
Choreographer Birutė Sortukaite M. K. Ciuria's "Sea" became the main metaphor for talking about the changed relationship between modern man and nature, about the pains of today: toxic substances contaminated by the Baltic Sea and society contaminated with phobias, egoism and apathy. Damaged nature and human balance bring mutual irreversible losses. The contamination of the Baltic Sea is related to the military industry. Chemical weapons were drowning after World War I, and at the end of World War II, the pollution increased further: 3000-5000 tons of chemical weapons, 270,000 tons of explosives with a chemical charge, 35,000 tons of rockets and airline. These are only part of the data that reveal the tragic situation of the Baltic Sea.
"Scientists have long been investigated and found that the Baltic Sea is the most chemically contaminated sea in the world so that it cannot be eaten by the fish caught […].
"What are you complaining about the sea?", Asked composer M. K. Čiurlionis more than 100 years ago, as if feeling the future Baltic Aiman.
