For the first time in Lithuania: dedication to Leonard Cohen - musical-poetry program DAINOS BOKŠTAS
"I'm just paying my rent every day
in the Tower of Song"
To the famous Litvak, singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard' ui Cohen in 2024 would have turned 90 years old. In honor of the memory of the song, well-known Lithuanian singers and actors are joining the musical-poetry project "Tower of Songs", initiated by good music experts "Bardai LT". Four concerts in four Lithuanian cities - Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai and Palanga - are planned for November this year.
Carefully selected songs by L. Cohen (some of them translated into Lithuanian ) will be performed with the voices of Vladas Bagdon, Česlov Gabalis, Lina Rastokaitė, Raminta Naujanytė – Bjelles, Marius Jampolskis and Andrias Bialobžeskis. The rhythm group assembled by Vytautas Lukočias will bring a lively, rich and sensual sound, and the director Alvydas Šlepikas will give the spectacle a theatricality and allow you to get to know the personality of the famous creator better.
Leonard's Cohen' and, born in Canada, his roots are Lithuanian, both his grandparents were born in Lithuania. L. Cohen himself never had time to visit Lithuania, but Vilnius (the only city in Europe) can be proud to have a sculpture of this legendary magician of songs, which was started by another great artist, sculptor Romualdas Kvintas, and finished by his student Martynas Gaubas after his death.
The legendary bard is considered one of the brightest and most influential in the 20th century. the creator who made the music for the second half. For lifetime achievement in 2010 he won the prestigious Grammy Award. Cohen's songs and poetry have greatly influenced many songwriters and musicians. The songs are often emotionally intensively charged, sensual, full of passion, bright images, sung themes: religion, loneliness, sexuality, complicated human relationships, death.
