Today we celebrate St. Francis celebration - St. Francis of Assisi Day. As you know, St. Francis was characterized by humility, prayer, obedience and good works. This year is special. We commemorate even 800 years of St. For Francis as a servant of God - a man who gave himself to God and people.
This evening is also special because everything is happening here in Kretinga. Carefree people live in Kretinga, who came up with the campaign - to help rebuild the men's house of the Pakutuvėnai Parish's Reconciliation Farm, which was destroyed by fire about six months ago. Believe me, dozens of Lithuanian men took shelter in that house and rose to a second life. It may sound painful, but they were dead in soul and spirit... However, with the help of the priest, Franciscan brother Gediminas Numgaudis and the community residing in "Pakūta", they rose to a second life - a life without alcohol, drugs, gambling and other addictions.
"Pakūta" is a place in Žemaitija, near Plunge. Franciscan brothers have been serving here for more than 30 years together with lay people. Active parish life takes place, people seeking help are received, various events and evangelizations are organized. The community under the patronage of the Franciscans is building a home here, where everyone who comes can meet the living God - our Lord Jesus Christ. In this place, four communities unite to serve God and people: the Franciscan brothers, the Pakutuvėnai parish, the Reconciliation Homestead and the Shalom community.
