"Sea in the forest" - a musical maze, where two wanderers - Liudas Mockūnas (saxophone) and Petras Geniušas (piano) - meet at the same exits to M. K. Čiurlionis' music spaces.
The two musicians' project "Sea in the forest" was born in 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of the most famous Lithuanian composer and artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911). At that time, there were many attempts to use Čiurlionis' music for new works, inter -greener and interdisciplinary interpretations. Of all these tests, the duo of Geniuš and Mockūnas have to be distinguished as the result of the extraordinary musical sensitivity and the original interpretative vision that moves the music of Čiurlionis and other Lithuanian composers to a new artistic level, suggestively unexpected quotes for their creative quotes. For musicians of different generations and genres, Čiurlionis' work became a source of inspiration and impetus to dive into the "sea" of individual experiences and subjective stylistic interpretations. “We are united by a difficult fit for a format of Vilnius School, which is characterized by anarchy and discipline. In addition, we have one common teacher, Vladimir Czechin, ”says Geniušas, who first became Mockūnas' creative partner.
It is impossible to get the duo's music into one specific style frame - in a virtuoso conversation, you can hear romantic, impressionist, contemporary music, jazz and free improvisation, comments and entire solo openings, and firmly attached to the seamless flow of events.
