Night concert marathon festival NESSUN DORMA invites pianist Monika Dars to a recital "Baltic Echoes" - a subtle musical journey through the soundscapes of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
This program brings together four outstanding creators of the Baltic region - Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Arvo Pärts, Pēteris Vasks and Zita Bruzaite In their music, the relationship with nature, silence, light and inner concentration, characteristic of the Baltic countries, opens up. Winter and summer landscapes, lagoon space, meditative calm and poetic imagination merge into a single musical narrative.
The work of M. K. Čiurlionis has a special place in the program. Preludes and Sonata in F major will be played, opening a unique world of Lithuanian musical romanticism. Next to them are the early and mature opus of the Estonian minimalist classic Arvo Pärt, the meditative landscapes of the Latvian composer Pēteris Vaskas and Zita Bružaitė's work "Marios", inspired by the spirit of the Baltic Sea region.
Monika Dars is an internationally acclaimed pianist who performs in Europe, North and South America and Asia. As a soloist, she has played with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Lviv Chamber Orchestra, "Melomania" Symphony Orchestra and National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts Symphony Orchestras, and in the field of chamber music she has collaborated with prominent European artists and participated in prestigious festivals in Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and Poland.
The pianist's artistic path is marked by significant international awards, including the Joseph Darche piano prize, the title of winner of the "Supernova" chamber music competition in Belgium, 1st place in the "Nordic Strings" competition in Denmark, 2nd place in the Luigi Nono competition in Italy and other awards. Her recordings are heard on radio and television programs in various European countries, and her discography includes the critically acclaimed albums "Vasks & Brahms Piano Quartets" and "Resistance".
Monika Dars studied at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of the Arts and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in the class of Professor Veronika Vitaitė, later she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Higher School of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover and in Bern at the higher art school.
"Baltic Echoes" is an evening where the musical traditions of different Baltic countries meet in a common space, revealing the sensitivity, restraint and inner light characteristic of the culture of this region.
After the concert, the audience is invited to stay for the media opera "ČIURLIONIS: MATAU MUZIKĄ". In this way, the evening will naturally extend the acquaintance with the world of Čiurlionis - a world where music becomes color and color becomes music.
