William Fong's international career began in 1984 when he won first prize, a gold medal and the Rosa Sabater Prize at the International Jaen Prize for Pianists competition in Spain. Soon after, the pianist made his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert in St. John's Church, Smith Square. He subsequently performed successfully at the Busoni, Cleveland, Iturbi and Scottish International Competitions.
Shows in New York, Moscow and St. Petersburg (under the auspices of the Sviatoslav Richter Foundation), as well as in Europe, received critical acclaim. Invited to China and sponsored by the Arts Council of England, William performed and gave masterclasses in Shanghai. He also performed in Australia at the invitation of the Chair of the Australian Piano Pedagogy Conference and was a keynote speaker, recital and masterclass at the New Zealand Institute of Music Teachers conference in Auckland.
William regularly gives recitals, masterclasses, teaches and lectures in the UK and abroad, and regularly attends top international piano summer schools.
An ambitious musician, William has played with ensembles such as the Brodsky Quartet and the Guildhall Strings. He has also collaborated with singers Steve Davislim and James Rutherford, recording an interesting and little-known chamber music repertoire. His concerts are broadcast on television and radio channels in Europe and the United States. William has performed in all of London's major venues, and his concerts have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and BBC TV.
William is a renowned educator and is invited to hold masterclasses and judge competitions in the UK and abroad. He is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music, head of the Keyboard Department at the Purcell School for Young Musicians, one of Europe's leading specialist schools for talented young musicians. As a visiting professor at the Royal Conservatory of Scotland, he is the artistic director of the educational project and festival for young pianists Piano Star in Romania.
