"The classical symphony was given a rather intimate sound, the members of the orchestra together admired this masterpiece and naturally conveyed it. The long-term work of the artistic director with an outstanding team bore its fruit, and it seemed that a common unified interpretation, the ease of playing music, is not even achieved by the conductor's bridge, but by thought - so sensitively the musicians responded to the guidance. Conducting at such a level shows the accuracy and vitality of the discovered creative style, although Sergey Krylov, interviewed after the concert, called the evolution of the orchestra as gradus ad parnasum, that is, climbing the stairs to the heavenly peaks, and those steps, of course, never end in music..." - writes Dalia Tamošaitytė about the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and its artistic director, violinist and conductor S. Krylovas. These artists begin their 64th season with a concert featuring the music of romantic geniuses.
String Quartet No. 14 in D minor was composed by Franz Schubert in 1824, just after recovering from a serious illness, oppressed by financial poverty, and spiritually exhausted. The title "Death and the Maiden" (Der Tod und das Mädchen) comes from a musical quote used in the second part from his 1817 composed songs of the same name based on verses by Matthias Claudius. The quartet's music is characterized by breakthroughs of earthly joy and tragic pain - the composer here seems to be considering the questions of death and life.
The Italian virtuoso Niccolò Paganini appears in the history of music primarily as a violin star who had no analogues and who organized the most impressive tours throughout Europe; Chopin, Liszt, Schubert listened to him with admiration. Anyone who heard Paganini was amazed at his talent, far beyond human ability. He was not only an outstanding virtuoso, but also a pioneer and composer of a new - romantic - performance style. His five groundbreaking violin concertos greatly influenced the development of the instrumental concerto genre. Having a perfect knowledge of the possibilities of the instrument, Paganini used all the techniques of playing the violin with unprecedented boldness. The First Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major, created in 1811, is a large-scale, highly virtuosic, colorful harmony, based on Italian folklore and rhythms.
