The birthday of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis is ringing with strings! The special day's concert, dedicated to the 149th anniversary of Čiurlionis' birth, provides an original look at the work of the genius.

A project initiated by harpist Joana Daunytė several years ago made it possible to hear Čiurlionis' music played with the sounds of the harp for the first time in the history of music, and a CD was also recorded. Chiurlonis with harp strings" (Naxos). The adaptation of the great Lithuanian artist's piano music to the guitar is a project implemented by another young, talented musician. The digital sheet music publication of guitarist Rokas Jurkaus's arrangements is available worldwide with the help of the Lithuanian Music Information Center. Appreciated for his sensitive musicianship and interesting programs, R. Jurkus, a graduate of the Lille Conservatory of Music and Dance (France), actively expresses himself as a concert soloist and chamber music performer. For this concert, the guitarist prepared several arrangements of Čiurlionis's songs, and he adapted Mindaugas Urbaitis's "Ramyba" for guitar and string quartet, inspired by Čiurlionis' painting. This is another moment of contact between contemporary music and Čiurlionis' art in the concert program, where, in addition to the sound of the guitar, we will also hear the works performed by the titular Čiurlionis quartet.

One of the authors of the quartet program is the German composer Salomon Jadassohn, who is little known to the Lithuanian public, who taught at the Leipzig Conservatory, and Čiurlionis was among his students. Another gift for Čiurlionis' birthday is the latest piece for string quartet by the composer, well-known creator of music theater (the performance "Liudijimai", the ballet "In the beginning there was nothing", the music of the MO exhibition "Vilnius Pokeris", etc.) and painter Antanas Jasenko, about which the author says: "In the composition, I use the laws of "balance" that I have formed. I do not give up the sequence of Baltic derms, rhythmic ostinato. I always associate ostinato with discipline. This is probably the most important principle of staying alive both spiritually and physically in the face of the threat of war. Repetition is also associated with the sign of infinity." Although the work is not directly associated with Čiurlionis, A. Jasenka admitted that he was heavily influenced by Čiurlionis' painting, which the author tries to convey at least in his music.
