Program:
MORITZ MOSZKOWSKI – Concerto for piano and orchestra no. 2 in E major, Op. 59
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN - Symphony no. 7 in A major, Op. 92
"About Ludwig van Beethoven's 7th symphony (1812), which will be played tonight, even the author himself has said that it is one of his best works, so I will not argue with Beethoven - I completely agree with him. Gustav Mahler testified that after this symphony people left as if intoxicated. Knowing such a chaotic character and lifestyle of Beethoven, I am amazed by the perfect structure of the 7th Symphony. By the way, in this piece, the composer used three f - fff - forte fortissimo for the first time. I am also very happy that this concert will feature the extremely rarely performed deeply romantic music of Moritz Moszkowski", says the conductor of the concert, Vilmantas Kaliūnas, who lives and works in Germany, but closely cooperates with our ensembles.
Pianist Paulius Anderssonas: "Yet when I was a teenager, I listened to all of Mr. Moszkowski's concerts, all of his recordings, and realized that I really wanted to play his music. Now the opportunity arose and I chose the Second Concerto in E major (1898). This is wonderful music, a great piece, unfortunately very rarely performed. I like to add less frequently played works to my repertoire - it's a very interesting creative process, because there are no established traditions, norms, how to perform them. Of course, the era and style are self-evident, but there are no stereotypes of the performance: you just sit at the notes, search for them yourself, analyze them, and it's a lot of fun for me. Known in his time, one of the best-paid pianists and composers, due to certain circumstances he was forgotten and remained for many only a creator of etudes. I want to bring M. Moszkowski's music back to our listeners."
P. Andersson is a concert pianist who has won 16 international competitions in France, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia, Poland, and Lithuania. From 2022 he became a resident artist of the Drozdoff Society in New York.
Concert partner – M. K. Čiurlionis International Music Festival
