A long-time nurturer of chamber music traditions, laureate of many prestigious prizes, the Vilnius State Quartet regularly prepares interesting programs, thematic cycles, introduces the audience to masterpieces of this genre and music little known in Lithuania. This quartet concert features opus of the chamber genre by Czech authors, which tell stories and reveal the most secret experiences of the composers themselves.
Leoš Janáček's String Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters" conveys the story of the composer's unfulfilled love. in 1917 while on vacation in a Moravian resort, the sixty-year-old creator fell in love with the wife of an antiques dealer, who was twenty-six. Although she did not receive a response or interest in his work, Janáček continued to send her letters until his death eleven years later. The letters, which the composer also conveyed through music, reveal a painfully open portrait of a lonely artist at the peak of his creative powers.
The Vilnius State Quartet constantly plays music with various stage partners from Lithuania and the world. In this concert, he meets the young talented pianist Simon Poška - winner of the 2nd place of the IX International M. K. Čiurlionis Pianists and Organists Competition, the competitions "Lisztofonija", "Muzika be ħių" and others. winner, who played this year's March in an exclusive event - the opening concert of the Lithuanian culture season in France - solo and with pianist Mūza Rubackyte, with the French orchestra conducted by Sébastien Billard. The pianist and the Vilnius State Quartet will end the concert with a bright highlight - Antonin Dvořák's Piano Quintet, Op. 81, thus also marking the 120th anniversary of the composer's death.
Colorful, melodic, lively and full of romantic drive, Dvořák's quintet is considered one of the finest examples of this genre. The second part, Dumka: Andante con moto, is particularly fascinating, reflecting the depths of the ethnic music form - dumka (dumka is called a type of folk song or epic ballad of some Slavic peoples - Ukrainians, Poles, Slovaks - characterized by an elegiac, sentimental and melancholic mood, often fluctuating from sadness to joy).
