The uniqueness of this concert is the return of a quartet of talented saxophonists from Germany to their beloved Vilnius and even two premieres - German and Lithuanian, dedicated to the capital! As always, Signum's exceptional saxophonists promise to ignite emotional musical fireworks. The artists' experiences of the stylistic limits of music and the constant search for the perfect ensemble sound, be it original compositions for the saxophone quartet, arrangements of orchestral works, or baroque compositions, or rock, allow you to experience a real music festival. Playing with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra not for the first time, Signum presents this time the premiere work of one of the most interesting contemporary German composers, Christian Jost, "Winterreise" for saxophone quartet, vibraphone and strings (dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the German painter Kaspar David Friedrich). Previously, Robert Schumann's Lied cycle "Dichterliebe" arranged by the composer was very popular, and this time his original jazzy look at Franz Schubert's famous cycle "Winterreise" ("Winter journey") is presented.
The author of the new Lithuanian work is 60 years old celebrated composer Gediminas Rimkus Rimkevičius, whose work is distinguished by the diversity of genres and styles, using rhythm groups, folklore ensembles, electronic phonograms, readers in orchestral, vocal-instrumental opus, combining the language of classical and contemporary music with the stylistics and genres of various types of music. "Vilnius Symphony" (2022) by G. Rimkus Rimkevičius, which will be played for the first time, was written for the capital's 700th anniversary. According to the author, "the symphony is as if building a bridge to the historical center of Lithuania, the city of kings, telling the story of the prosperity and dramatic decline of the capital of Lithuania as a multicultural European city. The symphony is an attempt to feel and reveal the spirit of Vilnius, to create a retrospective, spiritual connection with the present-day Vilnius and its inhabitants." The music, which lacks vitality, drama and timbral colors, conveys the perversions of the city's history, connects the past and the present, which the author conveys even more dramatically than echoing the past. .
The concert program will be completed by the suite "Much Ado About Nothing" by Austrian Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a successful creator of operas and music for films. 1920 The music composed for William Shakespeare's play in Vienna is considered a psychological study of human characteristics - lust, temptation, greed, and the moody and action-packed orchestral suite from this play is one of E.W. Korngold's best-known examples.
