p>On New Year's Eve, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius present the unique, theatrical piece "The Queen Symphony" by the Turkish-born British composer Tolga Kashif (b. 1962), combining the work of the legendary group "Queen" and symphonic music. "I wanted to reveal the primordial essence of this great music. I wanted to create something more than a simple orchestration, and I discovered that an integral part of Queen's music is the language of the modern classical genre," says T. Kashif. According to legendary Queen guitarist Brian May, The Queen Symphony is the work of a man with a new approach and a unique way of thinking. "I'm sure this piece, like other things related to Queen, can cause a backlash. It breaks most of the rules of symphonic form. But I am also convinced that this symphony will become an immortal favorite in the repertoire of orchestras, because it will always gather full concert halls", says B. May.
The members of the group did not participate in T. Kashif's symphony in the creation process, leaving the composer complete creative freedom. Although the symphony uses the band's most famous songs for its musical fabric, some of them will be hard to recognize even for the biggest fans of Queen's music. "Everyone who expects to hear simply arranged Queen songs will be shocked to say the least," said Queen guitarist B. May after the first auditions of the symphony.
T. Kashif points out that Queen's music is valuable material for the academic composer—Queen was part of a radical new wave that challenged all popular music. She embodied the original artistic expression that we hear in the band's scrupulously executed recordings and concerts. Today, The Queen Symphony is performed all over the world, and its recording remains one of the most popular in the classical music charts of Europe, USA, Asia. "Queen's" theatricality, sensuality overwhelms the sound of a symphony, it seems we hear the backstage of the pompous Freddy Mercury theater.
