The first single from the upcoming album "Son" is already available on various music listening platforms.
Post-punk, new-wave and synth -pop music group, currently residing in Los Angeles (USA), formed in 2017 in Belarus. Dark, gothic, but at the same time inviting to dance, the sound of "Molchat Doma" is unique and perfectly recognizable by die-hard post-punk fans.
A favorite band in Europe, the US and the rest of the world is Egor Shkutko, the owner of a deep monotone voice, Roman Komogortsev, a guitar, synthesizer and drum machine virtuoso, and Pavel Kozlov, who plays bass guitar and synthesizer. The band make no secret of being inspired by music legends such as The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode and Human League, and Molchat Doma's own music is often compared to such giants of the genre as Joy Division. or Bauhaus.
The hugely popular Molchat Doma" received in the 2020s, when their song "Sudno (Boris Ryzhy)" became a hit on TikTok, with more than 100,000 users using it in their videos, which significantly increased the group's success on other social networks and music listening platforms. Sudno quickly rose to number two on the Spotify Global Viral Top 50 and number one on the US Viral Top 50, while Molchat Doma's album Monument climbed to a lofty number 21 on the Billboard Top 200.
2022-2023 Molchat Doma embarked on a highly successful world tour, playing to sold-out venues in the US, Europe and Australia, and making stops at music festivals such as Coachella, Cruel World and Primavera. Having publicly condemned Russia's war in Ukraine, "Molchat Doma" allocated part of the proceeds from these concerts to support Ukraine.
Molchat Doma's music has always radiated a brutalist aesthetic , the same can be said about the upcoming album: it is cold, gray and industrial, but imbued with the warmth of the heart. After the group's breakthrough in 2020 the trio has been through everything from being forced to move from their hometown to selling out concerts around the world. Over the course of four years, so many changes took place in the musicians' lives that their music inevitably transformed into new dimensions. "The whole album is a prism through which we tried to reflect what happened to us," say the members of Molchat Doma about the new album.
Son, the first single from the album due in the fall of 2024, exudes a sense of anxiety, frustration, hopelessness and fear. It's like stepping into the unknown, realizing you can't go back to your old life. The video for the single, which was filmed in the style of David Lynch in the mystical Scottish Highlands, was directed by Bryan M. Ferguson. According to him: “It's about a dream that feels like reality and that dream that translates into real life. I wanted to create something emotionally charged but atmospheric that matched the song.”
According to influential US music portal Pitchfork, Molchat Doma's music is "So mystically assured that it's impossible not to want to be a part of it". On November 14, it will be possible to experience this magic at the Compensa concert hall in Vilnius.
