J. Bach's Aria and 30 Variations for Harpsichord, more commonly known as the "Goldberg Variations", the BMW 988 still sounds very modern today. Their arrangements for various instruments and ensembles underline the timeless appeal of this piece to both musicians and audiences.

The variations include various forms - fugues and toccatas, each of which reveals different techniques of using the instrument. This requires both virtuosity and a deep understanding of music from the performers.
