October 17 a unique meeting will take place: two folk music groups, both of which were founded in Canada and both of which are related to Baltic traditions and draw creative inspiration from them, will perform together at the "City Laboratory" in Vilnius.
Honeypaw is a duo of Jurgita Žvinklytė and Matti Palonen, formed after Jurgita in 2019. moved to Toronto (Canada). Since then, they have been performing traditional songs in Lithuanian, Finnish and Karelian languages on kankle, kantele and jouhikko instruments in Canada and Europe. During this tour of Lithuania, they will present songs from the unpublished Finnish folklorist A.R. Niemi's 1912. made wax cylinder recordings, with stops in the Lithuanian areas where they were recorded.
Crooked Mouth - a neofolk group founded by Ian Campbell, originally from British Columbia, Canada, and from 2022 living in Vilnius. Crooked Mouth explores liminal sonic spaces where British guitar-ballad folk collides with Baltic instruments, mythology and atmosphere, mixing with the experiments of the contemporary underground music world. Crooked Mouth filters all this through the alchemical prism of self-awareness transformation. Tonight will be the first concert of their European tour, starting in Vilnius and stretching all the way to France and back.
