Jazz Cellar 11 club is proud to invite you to Diego Piñera Berlin Odd Wisdom's new album "Underground Roller Coaster" presentation concert.
Diego Pinera has proven time and time again that he is one of the most interesting drummers in modern jazz and knows how to put together a good band. The 42-year-old musician's life path leads from Uruguay to Cuba, from the USA to Berlin; from 16 released recordings (2 of them with ACT Music), through hundreds of concerts on four continents to a Grammy nomination, from the Echo Jazz Award and most recently to the German Jazz Award 2023. Scott Colley, Donny Mc Caslin, Ben Monder, Sebastian Schunke, Joo Kraus, Omar Sosa - even a small part of Diego's list of collaborators looks impressive.
Of course, Diego is another the album had to become not only the result of accumulated experience, but also a new (re)discovery and a personal challenge. A masterpiece that embodies both Diego's impulsive passion and his "musical wisdom". The album "Underground Rollercoaster" symbolizes all this. But what is hidden in this music and what makes it special? Underground Rollercoaster is more than just music. This is the true story of the great musician about happiness and fear, failure and fighting spirit, about illness and new direction.
"Latin Jazz meets Berlin Jazz" has always been the motto of this quartet. . However, it is only after a long musical journey that Diego finally finds his way back to his native Uruguay, playing various traditional percussion instruments from there that he has known since earlier times. Also, in the old school tradition, everything was recorded and performed simultaneously in the same room. You can literally hear the overall energy; never before has Diego played with the same band for so long. Unadulterated, authentic and just plain good.
This truly identity-shaping album is a must for fans of jazz and world music, as well as anyone interested in Piñera's complex metrics. Although it may sound simple, it is technically Diego's most complex work to date.
This concert is funded by the Goethe Institute.
