Old Things Resonate New ø Muzikos ruduo 2024

Everyday objects, scraps, unused things are reborn, acquire a new meaning in the music of today's creators.

New vocal music collective MELOS (Lithuania) and the ensemble VERTIXE SONORA (Spain) present a program in which they consider our consumption habits and the challenges that accompany them.

Every day we gain and say goodbye to dozens , and what - with hundreds of different items: from a disposable bag or package to an old bicycle or an unused chair. Can we imagine how many things pass through our hands during our lifetime?

Composers and performers invite us to extend or resurrect things to a new life - thereby contributing to reducing the impact of problems caused by consumerism.

GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Humanity is quietly deciding its future. As the world stands on the brink of the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence that could change the fabric of society, with scientists warning ominously that we will soon cross a "red line" beyond which climate damage will be irreversible, with the earth's population surpassing 8 billion and the doomsday clock ticking in the last minutes to midnight, it becomes clear that global challenges can change our future and everyday life at any time. How do we see and react to these threats and the future of humanity, and why, even when we are aware of the extent of the threats, are we unable to focus on saving the world? global or regional issues – from the impact of consumerism on the environment to the number of people in the world, from the lack of fresh water to the threats of robotization. How are these themes reflected in the works of composers, in the world of music, in our everyday life and in our perception of it? While continuing to develop the international program, the festival will also offer an important opportunity for the exchange of ideas, their global contextualization - the presented foreign creators and performers will expand the range of relevant topics, their access and perception and will allow us to listen even more widely to the mirror of global threats presented to us by music, as well as possible the future(s) of mankind.
