The second concert of the cycle - SUKAUPTI - invites you to come back to yourself. Symbolically, the program that will be played in the Treasure Hall of the Museum of Church Heritage on November 2 is a time of concentration, philosophical meditation, a search for connection with oneself, which is so necessary in a constantly changing, hurrying and confusing world.

This avant-garde 20th century building is marked by signs of peace and peculiar silence. creation - both for the music connoisseur and for everyone who wants to explore and discover new musical sounds.

After several years of creative crisis, the Italian composer Luigi Nono (1924 -1990) wrote a series of works that were completely different from what he had created in the last three decades. Among these works was the string quartet "Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima", which was premiered in 1980 by the La Salle String Quartet, which was very famous in Europe at that time. Few works of the time have been as commented and praised as this one. And thirty years later, music historian David Metzer rated it as one of the key works of the 1980s, which formed a new stage in modernist music.

Diotima was Socrates' teacher and is associated with the concept of time. The music was inspired by the famous German romantic poet Fr. Lines of Hölderlin's poem, which, like unspoken words or meditation, remain only references in the score. Luigi Nono, exploring early music and memories from the distant past as a cause of pain and hope, raises the fundamental questions: "Where am I and who am I?"

American composer John Cage (1912- 1992) String Quartet in Four Parts (String Quartet in Four Parts) was created in 1950 and is one of the last works in which the principles of uncertainty and randomness characteristic of his work have not yet fully taken hold. For this quartet, John Cage used a new technique he called "gamuts". A fixed, immutable and individualized "scale" is created for each performer, and from their sequence emerges melody and harmony that lose no traction and thus eliminate any sense of progression. After finishing the first part, he was so impressed with the new method that he wrote: "This piece is like opening another door, the possibilities are limitless."

The piece is dedicated to fellow composer Lou Harrison. John Cage wanted to create a piece that celebrated silence but avoided silence itself. The four parts of the quartet have links to the Indian understanding of the seasons, in which each season is associated with a certain force of creation, preservation, destruction or peace.
