We invite you to an exclusive evening of hard bop and mainstream jazz, where the complexity and sensuality of this musical style will be presented by some of the most talented Latvian musicians. Hard bop is a style that combines the mastery of jazz with the deeply moving emotions of blues and gospel, creating music that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally enriching.

Listeners have been around for some time. known as Modal Jazz Ensemble, they appeared at the Birština Jazz Festival earlier this year. This time the ensemble is changing its name and will present a new program and perform original compositions and hard bop classics by the famous Latvian pianist and composer Madars Kalniņš, who, by the way, also plays in the ensemble.

We pay special attention to Indrik Veitner, who plays the tenor saxophone. One of the most famous Latvian saxophonists and head of the jazz department of the Latvian Academy of Music. His deep knowledge of jazz perfectly complements the skill of the ensemble members, and the tenor sax is an integral part of hard bop, and in Veitner's hands it becomes a powerful voice capable of conveying a wide range of emotions, from gentle reflection to bright energy.

The ensemble is joined by the outstanding trombonist Lauris Amantovs, who will certainly make this concert unique with this rather rarely played instrument in a jazz club. One of the most prominent trombonists of his generation, Amantovs is distinguished by his deep, resonant tone. His solo parts are characterized by both lyrical beauty and impressive power, revealing the trombone's ability to harmoniously combine melody with rhythm.
