Rob Luft is an award-winning jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity is compared to six-string legends such as John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco De Lucia. He received in 2016 Kenny Wheeler Award from the Royal Academy of Music, and also won second place in 2016. Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival. His debut album Riser was released in 2017. Edition Records and received wide recognition in the European jazz media. in 2019 in May, Rob was selected as a BBC New Generation Jazz Artist. He made his debut on the legendary German jazz label ECM Records with the album Lost Ships, which he co-produced with Swiss-Albanian singer Elina Duni. This album was nominated in the "International Album of the Year" category in 2021. at the German Jazz Awards. Luft's last album Dahab Days was released last year.
Rahel Talts is a young up-and-coming Estonian jazz pianist and composer who has been very active musically in Denmark in recent years, In Lithuania, Estonia and other European countries. Rahel has participated in many prestigious projects throughout Europe. in 2021 she was chosen as one of 15 young jazz musicians in the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy project in Hamburg, which culminated in two sold-out concerts at the legendary Elbphilharmonie concert hall. in 2023 Talts was chosen to represent Estonia in the legendary Euroradio Jazz Orchestra. in 2023 Rahel also reached the finals of the Helsinki Grand Orchestra Composition Competition. The Talts have their own international 14-member ensemble, the Rahel Talts Ensemble, with whom they will perform in 2022. released their first album "Power of Thought" in February and recorded a new one this summer. Another ensemble she leads is a quartet with which they toured Europe and Asia and in 2023. released the very well-received album "Greener Grass" in May.
The Rahel Talts Quartet performs original music by the Estonian pianist and composer Rahel. The band's music can be described as energetic, acoustic, melodic jazz, which is influenced by Baltic and Nordic folk melodies and older traditional jazz and bebop, making this music unique and special. in 2023 Rahel Talts Quartet released their first album Greener Grass in May to great reviews and they will start recording a new album in November! The quartet performed and toured in France, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries. Their last tour to Southeast Asia was very successful.
This collaboration between Rahel Talts and Rob Luft is very special as it will be their first concert in this series of Baltic tours (the second concert they play together). Rob's participation in the Rahel Talts Quartet brings a new sonic color, texture and perspective to the music that we are all looking forward to!
