Jaffar Hussain Randhawa is one of the few people in South Asia who carrying on the now rare tradition of playing Hindustani classical music on the clarinet, a western instrument not usually heard in traditional ragas and tumri.
Jaffar Hussain Randhawa was born into a family of brass musicians - his grandfather 20th century founded the Punjab Orchestra in the mid-1940s, and his father continued to conduct the orchestra and rose to fame at a time when there was fierce competition between brass bands in Punjab, such as the famous Babu Band and the Sohni Band.
