LVSO | TWO BIRTHDAYS: MAESTRO GINTARAS RINKEVIČIUS AND ALENA BAEVA
J. Sibelius. Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47
A. Dvořák. Symphony no. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 ("From the new world")
Alena Baeva, violin
Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra
Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius
Violinist Alena Baeva was noticed by world-famous classical stars when she was studying at the P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. In addition to his official studies in 2003 A. Baeva studied in France at the invitation of Mstislav Rostropovich, and in 2007 studied at the Seiji Ozawa Academy in Switzerland. in 2017 after debuting at the Lincoln Center in New York, the violinist received extremely favorable reviews from critics: "A. Baeva was like a magnet on stage. Both the sound of her instrument and the richness of the sound and astonishingly accurate intonation were enchanting, and the strength and inner fire of the soloist made the work she performed sound like a real masterpiece", - wrote the famous magazine "New York Classical Review" after the concert. The violinist's repertoire currently includes more than 40 violin concertos, including not only well-known classical masterpieces, but also lesser-known contemporary works.
In Vilnius, A. Baeva will play one of the most famous works of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957) - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D minor, op. 47. 1904 while the composer was passionately working on the concerto manuscript, his wife Aino wrote in her letters: "Jean is absolutely passionate about this concerto - and so am I!" He stays up all night, sings beautifully and can't tear himself away from those catchy tunes - he has so many ideas in his head it's hard to believe. And all themes can be developed - life pulsates in them."
In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will invite you to listen to Czech composer Antonin Dvoržak's (1841-1904) Symphony No. 9 in E minor, better known as the symphony "From the New World". Composers have long been interested in folklore, and when he came to the United States to lead the American National Conservatory of Music, A. Dvořák plunged into the depths of Indian and African-American ethnic music and was especially fascinated by black sacred music - spirituals, the influence of which can also be heard in the work. Written in New York, the symphony "From the New World" became not only the most famous symphony composed by A. Dvořák, but also one of the most famous symphonies in the world.
