Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, pianist Gintaras Januševičius and conductor Egidijus Kaveckas invite children to spend a humorous and intriguing afternoon with the legendary French children's hero Babar the elephant. The story of Francis Poulenc's (1899-1963) composition about the elephant Babar began when the composer stayed at a villa in Brive-la-Gaillarde one summer with his young nieces and nephews. After a while, the children were so fascinated by his playing the piano that they proposed a game: they brought Jean de Brunhoff's book "The Story of Babar the Elephant", which was very popular at the time and was very much loved by children, and asked F. Poulenc's adventures of the elephant... to play the piano! The composer began to freely improvise according to the situations described in the book, and later, reviving his memories, he created a musical composition with the same name.
The story tells about a young African elephant, Babar, who escapes from the jungle to ... of Paris! There he befriends an old lady and begins to learn good manners. But after finding Babar, his friends invite him back to the jungle. And here, after eating a poisonous mushroom, the king of elephants dies. The crown is offered to Babar - after all, he lived among people and gained a lot of wisdom...
The story of Babar the elephant will be told this afternoon and pianist Gintaras Januševičius will play the piano. G. Januševičius studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, later he continued his studies in Germany with professors Vladimir Krainev and Bernd Goetzke. Since 2004 The Hanover-based pianist performs all over the world and is considered one of the pioneers of the narrative concert in Lithuania. He also devotes a lot of time to educational activities - in 2017 founded the largest piano academy in the Baltic States, Klaipėda Piano Masters, and from 2021 organizes music shows on "LRT Klasika".
The adventures of Babar the elephant will be enriched by the charming orchestral miniatures of the American composer Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) "Syncopated Clock", "The Cat Dancing the Waltz" and "The Printing Machine".
