Charismatic violin principal Zbignievs Levickis and one of the best bassoonists in Lithuania Andrius Puplauskis, together with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, invites you to experience an impressive journey through the world of violin and bassoon. Konradas Levickis, concertmaster of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, violinist Konradas Levickis is the invited guest of the jubilee concert.
The evening will begin with bassoonist Andrias Puplauskis' Bassoon Concerto "Five Sacred Trees" performed by American composer John Williams (b. 1932). . The piece was written especially for Judith LeClair, concertmaster of the bassoon group of the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, on the occasion of the orchestra's 150th anniversary. Each of the five parts of the concert is dedicated to revealing a different mythical ancient Celtic tree.
Z. Levickis and K. Levickis will play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) charming Concertone (lit. "big concerto") for two violins and symphony orchestra in the concert. About this work written in Italy, musicologist Alexander Hyatt King wrote: "In this work, the old genre has acquired a new soul - the baroque instruments of the concerto grosso are in perfect harmony with the new gallant style."
In the second part of the concerto The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will play "Enigma Variations" by the British composer Edward Elgar (1857–1934). In the 14th variation, portraits of people dear to the composer are "encoded", from his wife Alice to E. Elgar himself. in 1899 The piece presented for the first time in London earned E. Elgar international recognition.
Tonight, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by the conductor of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater, Martynas Staškus.
