Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by the artistic director and chief. conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, presents an exceptional evening to piano music connoisseurs. Piano virtuosos Petras Geniušas and Alexander Paley'us - for the first time together on one stage, where even three pianists' piano conversations will be heard.
The evening will begin with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) Concerto for two pianos and orchestra. Unlike in his other concerts, in which the soloist creates a musical dialogue with the orchestra, in this opus W.A. Mozart puts the dialogue of the pianists in the foreground. The musical narrative in the work is revealed by virtuoso piano passages. Both solo parts in this concert are equal, and the orchestra is given the role of accompanist.
The second performance will be Camille Saint-Saëns' (1835-1921) famous Suite "Carnival of the Beasts", written by the composer In 1886, after a very unsuccessful concert tour in Germany. "I know I should be working on my Third Symphony, but writing this piece is so much fun!" the composer wrote. However, until his death, Saint-Saëns did not allow "Carnival of the Beasts" to be performed in public, fearing that the frivolity of the suite would damage his reputation as a serious composer. "Carnival of the Beasts" was first performed publicly in 1922. and... became one of the most popular works of C. Saint-Saëns.
The evening will end with the famous Concerto for two pianos and orchestra by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963), which is also described as an early the peak of the composer's creative period. The work is influenced by the traditional Balinese ensemble music - gâmelan, the jazz effects used in it are reminiscent of M. Ravel, and the opening theme is undoubtedly permeated by W. A. Mozart's work.
