"Undoubtedly an exceptional artist", this is how Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko, born in Kiev, was described in 2017. wrote the French daily "Le Figaro". The winner of the gold medal of the prestigious Van Cliburn (USA) International Piano Competition, V. Kholodenko is characterized by fiery pianism, an extremely wide repertoire and refined interpretations that are comparable to poetry. Extraordinary talent and mastery earned the pianist a place in the elite of world classical music. 2024-2025 in the season, V. Kholodenko will play with Rome's Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Milan's Filarmonica della Scala, Netherlands Radio, Vienna, London Philharmonic, Indianapolis and other famous symphony orchestras. The pianist also gives recitals in prestigious concert halls from London, Paris, Vienna to Boston, Chicago and New York, where he is praised for his "impeccable technique capable of revealing moments of crystalline delicacy" (The Guardian). V. Kholodenko's recordings are rated as "truly exceptional" (Gramophone Magazine) and won the BBC Music Magazine Editor's Choice Award and the coveted Diapason d'Or Award of the Year. The famous pianist in Vilnius will play J. Brahms' impressive concerto for piano and orchestra no. 2 in B flat major, Op. 83, revealing the composer's mastery and all-round maturity.
In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the artistic director and chief. conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, will perform Jean Sibelius's (1865–1957) First Symphony in E minor, which the composer wrote in 1899 at the age of 34. Although J. Sibelius had already established himself as a master of orchestration with his previous programmatic symphonic poems, it was the First Symphony that earned the composer international recognition. "This symphony, brimming with unbridled power, passionate vitality and stunning audacity, is an extraordinary work that breaks new ground, or rather, rushes forward like an intoxicated god," wrote Ferdinand Pfol in the Hamburger Nachrichten newspaper.
