The solo improvisation of the double bass can be called a genre of music. American jazz and avant-garde music double bassist Barre Phillips (b. 1934) is considered its pioneer, on October 27 of this year. celebrating its 90th anniversary. He was the first to release an album of solo improvisations, "Journal Violone", which became a creative impulse for several generations of improvising double bass players. Over the past half century, approximately 300 double bass players around the world have ventured into improvisational solo recording.
During the jazz evening, we will listen to the most characteristic double bass solo recordings from 1969-2024 with double bassist Vytis Nivinskas, Doctor of Arts. period and we will talk about the brightest creators of double bass solo programs who dared to step on stage and performed improvised performances without accompaniment. The evening will also be illustrated by live improvisations of a solo double bass.
