Santūras, or Indian cymbals, are one of the most delicate and most captivating instruments of North Indian classical music. From Persia in the 15th century. Having arrived in Kashmir via the Silk Road, the santoor eventually became one of the favorite Indian musical instruments. Its silver-sounding strings allow you to extract the most subtle nuances of sound, and the gently reverberating strings create the impression of endless space.

During the evening we will listen to a double album by Shivkumar Sharma, published by EMI Records, with the poetic title "when time stood still" ("...when time stood still" !', 1982 EMI Records). There will be raga Kaunsi Kanhra, characterized by melancholic longing, and Mishra Kafi, a composition of a lighter nature. In the recording, the soloist is supported by another legend of Indian music - the world-famous tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain (b. 1951), one of the most active, original and creative performers of this instrument.
